while cutting roadside milkweed for the offspring of my
early April purchased caterpillars, I discovered three 1st instars.
No eggs were visible, but I didn't have time to look carefully. The
cats were on milkweed by a Rt 78 bridge over Washington Valley
Rd. in Bridgewater, Somerset County, NJ. Very exciting since I
have never found any Monarch activity on those plants in the past
3 years.
