Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/07/2005

Number: 1

Audubon Naturalist Society in Chevy Chase, Maryland is a Monarch's field of
dreams. One of the teachers told me that she used to take kids into the
field and they would open and blow the milkweed seeds out of numerous pods
of milkweed. For the past two years, when I visited, I have not seen one
Monarch, but yesterday around 6 PM, I took a walk before class and there she
was, checking out the large patch. I was at the bottom of the hill and when
I made my way around she was gone. I sat in my car looking down at the
field and finally she came around again.

I took Gary's advise and checked out the edge of the milkweed patch in
several areas. Finally, I found two eggs laid on the unopened blossoms of
the milkweed bloom.
