Number: 1

June 8th: Seney National Wildlife Refuge, central Upper Peninsula – two monarchs along the 7-mile drive late afternoon. Plenty of milkweeds along both sides of the winding dirt road at 6-12 inches in height. Numerous snapping turtles were out laying eggs. Loons were seen that evening numbering two pairs and one loner.

June 9th: Seney National Wildlife Refuge. Monarchs during the early morning sunshine numbered ten.

June 14th: Seney National Wildlife Refuge: Monarchs seem to be down every turn of the road. Milkweed was on the verge of blooming. We observed a male & female mating and another female depositing eggs on milkweed. We counted twelve monarchs that morning. One pair of loons with two downy chicks was a lovely treat.
