Yesterday, on the first day of summer I saw my first adult monarch of the year in my yard in Winnipeg. I had heard last week of a couple of sightings.

I have milkweed in our yard and in 2003 had several monarchs grow from caterpillar to emerge as adults. In 2004, however, we saw no adult monarchs in our yard or anywhere in Winnipeg.
