Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/21/2005

Number: 1

I have not seen any monarchs yet BUT we went to our summer cottage and I found a newly hatched pillar on the Asclepsia syracia on Monday June 20th. I found 3 new hatches on my milkweed at home on June 21st, Asclepsia syracia, also. I now have over 50 plants up and rapidly growing in my butterfly garden and did not have time to search them all as of yet but wanted to report that the Monarchs must be here since the pillars are hatching.
This is the earliest I have ever found eggs or pillars. In the past it has been 2 to 3 weeks later before they found my milkweed. I did not have as much then. I expect to have 100 plants available by mid July by looking at the ones that are still emerging.

Our cottage is south of Coshocton, Ohio. We are right on the Muskingam/Coshocton County line. We are about 40degrees 5 minutes lattitude.
Our home in in North Canton, Ohio about 85 miles from the cottage but not directly North. We are about 40 degrees 45 minutes lattitude.

I hope this help
