Saw a fifth-instar caterpillar at Illinois Beach State Park by the Nature
Center late this morning, happily munching away on common milkweed. Would
*love* to see some adults! A large (at least 5" wingspan) black butterfly
kept fluttering around us while we were having a picnic lunch on a grassy
are adjacent to the beach, tho. Have no idea what it was... couldn't see any
distinctive marks - it was just large and very dark in color.
Very sunny, hot, some marsh pinks, hoary puccoon, butterfly weed and commmon
milkweed in flower already.
