Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/17/2005

Number: 1

The knapweed has begun blooming, it's purple asterlike blossoms brighten the meadow. This has been a droughty summer very hot and very humid. Must be good butterfly growing weather. I've never seem so many butterflies, especially monarchs. I watched one perch on the woodpecker block yesterday. It was attracted by something used to hold the seeds together. The monarchs are nectaring heavily on the knapweed. I love how they soar into the air from it to float down in front of me. There are monarchs of all ages from new fresh ones to pale, faded ones. Letting my seep hose run during the night attracts all sort of winged wonders to enjoy the moisture. Too early for migrating, I'm trying to take time to appreciate the butterflies and hummingbirds before fall moves in.
