Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/20/2005

Number: 1

I spotted a faded monarch nectaring on a butterfly bush today. This past Thursday morning there was a monarch resting on a twig. Later in the day we put a watermelon in the backyard and another monarch dropped in for a snack. These sightings are the first ones locally since 7/30. We vacationed in Lower Michigan in late July and saw numerous monarchs along the lakeshore to about 20 miles inland from South Haven north to Ludington State Park.

The weather is hot and dry. I have been out in the milkweed patch harvesting seeds.
