Signs of Fall

I know nothing about hummingbirds but I saw your site and
wanted to know if you can tell me if I saw a humming bird or
a moth.

While looking at my flowers this spring I was watching
these large black and yellow bumble bees climbing in and out
of the flowers when one of these bees caught my eye. It looked
like a hovering humming bird, it was black and yellow, just like
the bumble bee, but it had two feathers that extended out from
its rump. These two feathers had white tips that, viewed from
behind, looked like eyes looking at me.

As this animal was the
same size as the bumble bee (about an inch long) I was and
still am amazed and would like to know what exactly I saw.

How Do You Know This is NOT a Hummingbird?
