Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/02/2005

Number: 1

I was out checking milkweeds and was very excited to find a whole stand of young tender ones. The Monarchs are still laying. I found 19 newly hatched cats, 6 larger ones and then I found 2 more the next day on the milkweed leaves I had picked for food. I also found 1 chrysalis and 7 eggs. I was really excited. I have not seen any indication of a migration yet but I think it is still early for us to have big waves of Monarchs. A few years ago 2 of our sons were in Hudson, Oh on their way home from a job and they saw "thousands" of them in a meadow. They stopped the truck to watch them and called me by cell phone. It was October 14th (one of their birthdays).
