Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/01/2005

Number: 1

We have been observing in our butterfly garden each day for any evidence of butterflies. We had received our info about the symbolic migration. My class participated last year and I had told my class this year about it. They were excited, so we had been learning all we could about butterflies, especially the monarch. Today as we were observing in the garden, Sarah said "Look at these caterpillars!" We went to look and could hardldy see them. They were less than a half an inch long. We counted 6 caterpillars. We immediately knew they were caterpillars of monarchs. We had to go on the intercom to announced that Royston Elementary was an official way station for monarchs.
