At about 9 a.m. and again in early evening (6:30 p.m.) saw hundreds roosting along this 1/4 mile long grove of trees. Still beautiful but not nearly so many as we had seen on 8-30-05 when there were thousands of them.

I leave for work at 6:20 a.m. so I asked my mom to watch the Monarchs this morning. She and my daughter saw hundreds again this a.m. about 8 o'clock. They had not left yet, still gathered in trees. Saw about one thousand total during the day in early afternoon and again about 6:30 p.m. also.

This was AMAZING! There had to be thousands of Monarchs roosting along an alfalfa field. The field also has clover. The roost was all along about a 1/2 mile grove of trees. We don't know the kind- some were box elder but some were maybe 40-50 foot tall with cherries on them also. At first we thought thre were hundreds--but the roost went on, and on, and on--with hundreds in each tree. How beautiful. I took lots of photos and some short videos on a digital camera. They were all on the south side of the trees. Little wind- maybe 10-15 miles or so. I can't wait to get home and go look again tonight. My husband saw them about 6:30, don't know when they arrived, hadn't been in that field lately before last night. Will report daily. YAY!!! August 31Saw Monarchs roosting again. Saw more in range of 600 total in the 1/4 mile stretch of mostly choke cherry trees.
