Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 08/28/2005

Number: 1

Over a period of 30 minutes around 7 p.m., in the same area that I reported from yesterday (15 maples, 6 other trees), with a temperature of 57 degrees and wind speed of 5 mph, I observed the following clusters: 16, 7, 6, 5, 5, 6, 7, 4, 1, 11, 2, 12, 7, 1, 16, 3, and 32 flying about that I didn't see land (109 roosted and 32 flying to total 141). Again, I was only counting those that I could see on the lowest branches. Earlier in the day, around noon, I simply looked out my window and saw 9 roosting on the locust tree. Last year I didn't count, but it seems like there are more monarchs this year.
