Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 08/27/2005

Number: 1

Over a period of 20 minutes, around 7 p.m. with a temperature of 54 degrees and a wind speed of about 2 mph, in an area of about 15 maples and six other trees, I counted the following clusters: 7, 2, 23, 11, 3, 2, 1, 2, 1 and four flying about that I didn't see land (56 total). All of those counted were on the lowest branches, where I could see; and I was perhaps most likely to see the monarchs that had landed on dead or dying branches. I managed to take a couple of nice pictures, too.
