Signs of Fall

Number: 1

A monarch butterfly was tagged here on August 26th by long-time butterfly tagger, Julie Clemens. The butterfly was on the north shore of Lake Erie, feeding hungrily from the wetland flowers that were blooming there that day.

One week later, the monarch was found 165 miles to the northeast in Ontario! The strong winds of Hurricane Katrina apparently carried the butterfly northeast as the storm moved overhead.

Don Davis found the monarch near the shore of Lake Ontario.
