Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 08/27/2005

Number: 1

My wife and I finished tagging monarchs on the 27th of August. We found a clover field right on the outskirts of Shawano. I tagged 29 in 40 minutes on the 26th and my wife and I tagged 90+ on the 28th in 2 hours. There were numerous species of butterflies in this field.

Painted ladies, milberts tortiseshell, fritillaries, cabbage whites, sulphers, and of course many, many monarchs. We had 175 tags this year. We tagged 150 and the other 25 I am saving for school. We were lucky because by the next weekend the field had been mowed and no more butterflies.
