They were in a tree in our shelter belt and as I approached a huge cloud of them arose and flew abour for a while. . A few days later I saw another group of them in another tree in the yard. They also arose and flew about for a while before settling back onto leaves of the tree.
Also there have been a lot of Monarchs just flying around in the yard.
The Mitchell, S.D. Daily Republic newspaper had a brief article about the fact that they were all over Mitchel this year. I do not recall seeing Monarchs in Fulton or Mitchell in great quantities like this ever before. Every summer we see a few of course.
The weather has been very dry and windy for the past two weeks. Perhaps the butterflys were just resting from the strong winds.
