75 degrees, wind out of NW at 11 miles per hour. Observed monarchs flying south from 3:30 to 4:30 pm at about 1 per minute. They were flying low over treetops and then dropping down to fly low over a 55 acre restored prairie planting (Sand Creek Preserve, Alamo Township,Kalamazoo County, Michigan. Adjacent to the prairie planting is an area of Canada goldenrod, Joe-Pye-weed, asters (spp) and pasture thistle. A few monarchs were seen there nectaring along with a multitude of fritillaries, and a smattering of other butterfly species.
