Time: Approximately 3:30 PM as sun was going down, the open bog next to our house was going from full sun exposure to gradual shadow. I noticed what I first thought was a flock of small birds. Then I realized because of their flying action that what I was looking at were probably approximately several hundred butterflies (yellowish in color). I looked through my binoculars and observed the butterfly activity for approximately the next hr. As shadows deepened the butterflies began to settle into the tall grasses in the bog. All the activity was over by about 5 PM. I believe these were Monarch butterflies. Heard about your website from my daughter, Sue Henneberry, a teacher at Bristow Middle School, W.Htfd. CT
