Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/22/2005

Number: 1

I was taking my early-evening walk and started noticing a few Monarchs along the road, sipping from a puddle. I walked a little further and then saw a few more. When I looked up, there seemed to be thousands of Monarchs above me, at all levels in the atmosphere. Here we have the Prarie wind and it was blowing south pretty good this evening. The highest Monarchs were traveling the fastest. There were A few also near the ground, seemingly looking for water or food. It appeared that with the wind, there was very little energy required by the highest of butterflies. That was amazing!
