We watched as the Monarchs left for Mexico this morning. It was cool 65F at 8 am. We had time to get outside as the morning warmed up slowly. We were watching the temperature to see at what temp almost all of the Monarchs were off of the roost trees. At 74F the trees were empty of the 380 Monarchs that had roosted there the night before. It was so exciting to see what they would do. The first ones off the trees quickly spiraled flapping and gliding upward till they were black specks gliding southward in the wind that was pushing them out of the North. A few we watched get a drink of dew off the wet grass. The last few got caught as the wind shifted out of the South and stayed around the trees for several hours. My Dau 6 enjoyed watching the rescue of two monarchs out of an orb-weaver's web. The spider even touched their bodies but then left. We were afraid to pull the sticky web strands of their wings. But, did get most of it off. Only one ended up with a small crinkle in the
