I made a trip up to Wichita Falls from Graham Wednesday. Leaving out of Graham on Hwy. 16 I was encountering
5 to 6 Monarchs crossing the highway per mile (these were the ones directly in my line of site, not off to the side of the road). It thinned out somewhat the further up the way I want, but where Hwy 281 crosses a river (I think the Little Wichita just north of Scotland) there were about ten or twelve Monarchs flying around. We have been seeing one at a time now and then for the past few weeks, but there seems to be a greater number now, although nothing like the year there seems to be scores and scores landing on the leaves of the shrubbery at the courthouse. The cold front blew in here last evening, wind gusts 40 or so. Don’t know if that has anything to do with my seeing the ones a few minutes ago or not.
