Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/29/2005

Number: 1

The monarch migration at Point Pelee to date has been somewhat dismal, with a cluster of 2000 on Sept. 23rd being the largest number seen.

However, further east on the north shore of Lake Erie at Port Burwell, west of Long Point, Monarch Landing and Nursry Garden (www.monarchlanding.ca) reported about 20,000 monarchs on Sept. 3rd and about 10,000 on the 19th of September. See the photo on their website homepage and click on "Monarch Migration". The running total of monarchs seen as of Tuesday September 27th, stands at 82,975. Ron Sllison is the owner.

I wonder if favourable conditions sent the monarchs flying directly over Lake Erie?
