Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/04/2005

Number: 1

I'm not much at estimating numbers, but today in Sonora, I visited two
places that get roosting monarchs every year. George has a
apricot tree in his backyard and today it was appoximately 35-40%
covered in thick monarchs - I will send the pictures when I get them.
The tree is about 20 feet tall, and pretty wide in diameter. At the ranch, there were hundreds flying around beneath and a few
branches were full, but not quite as many as he'd seen yesterday & the
day before. I will try to do some counts. We did get to watch them
streming in from the north, so tomorrow may be a good day. This is
exciting!
