Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/08/2005

Number: 1

We've got monarchs! I checked the skies between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. and there were monarchs settling into the trees well after sunset when the sky was still fairly light.

We had wind from the north all day yesterday. The front had blustered in at 12:42, Thursday afternoon, and cool winds persisted all Fridayfrom the north. This morning until 11 the air continued to move in from the north, but skies cleared. Temps went to 52.7 last night and back up to 82.3 today.
After 11 the air began to drift back in from the southeast.

I just checked 8 trees and found scattered singletons in all of them. Two trees had clusters. One of 12, the other of 5. Total # of monarchs sighted:
36 of which I netted 10.

These sightings were in an area 30 yards by 60 yards.
