Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/09/2005

Number: 1

Today ( Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005) I released the last of the 32 total Monarch's I captured either in the egg or larva stage, and brought them inside, where I placed them in a netted cage until they emerged from the chryslis. Most were released the same day they emerged after drying their wings, but this last one I had to keep overnight due to some heavy rains we were having. I supplied her with fresh Budellia flowers and I even offered sugar water, and gatorade on a cotton swab. But then I had to release her. The weather wasn't the greatest today either, but the hard rain is done, and it is getting late in the season. She MUST get going in order to make it to Mexico. I am worried, because the temperature is suppose to dip into the 40's tonight here in N.E. Pennsylvania I will look for her first thing in the morning. It was kind of sad leaving the last one go for the season. Looking foreward to 2006.
