Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/11/2005

Number: 1

Between the hours of 11 am and 2:30 today in two ten minute trips, I have counted close to fifty monarchs at my office located near I-635 and Greenville Avenue.

Since Saturday, 10/08/05, we have had absolutely wonderful weather: ranging from the 60's at night to the low 80's during the day, light clouds to full sun, some light scattered showers since saturday.

I have not really noticed the wind much but it does seem the monarchs have been flowing with the wind quite well (if that makes sense)....they are not fluttering the wings too much...just gliding along. I guess that would mean the wind has been out of the north (poss. NE to NW as well).

My office is at the High Point Center at 12225 Greenville Ave. Dallas. Behind the building there is a nice park with lots of trees, stream, and a pond with ducks. I checked on Monday to see if there were any monarchs roosting in the trees and didn't see any. There were a few monarchs checking out the crepe myrtles. I usually see the butterflies on my breaks which are usually between 10am and 3:30pm.
