Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/08/2005

Number: 1

We were in Hext, Texas (Menard County) this last weekend and tagged about 125 monarchs Saturday night 10/8/05. Got up early Sunday morning to try to find some before they warmed up and moved on - had very good luck because the wind had shifted and was coming out of the south and the butterflies seemed to want to stay in our "bottom" - a mixture of cedar elm, live oak and pecan trees along the San Saba River. They stayed under the tree canopy while the winds were high.
