We are a small school on the Navajo Reservation. We are at the elevation of about 5,000' and our area is considered part of a 'cold desert'. This area is very similar to the basin and range areas of Utah and Nevada. The students planted the tulips in a flat area where we keep a garden. It is not heavily shaded. Our soil is some clay, with lots of sand eroded from sandstone. The
students that planted the tulips are 7th graders.
