Janis Miller, Horticulture Curator at the Virginia Living Museum, reported to me today that her or her staff found a monarch caterpillar on thread-leaf milkweed in the Museum's butterfly garden in the rear of our main exhibit building. We've already reared, tagged and many monarchs, with about a half dozen chrysalides remaining. We don't think this caterpillar has a chance, because food is scarce and frost can happen anytime in the next 2 weeks. Talk about "pushing the envelop!" I wish it luck, we will let nature take its course.
