Signs of Fall

Date: 10/15/2005

Number: 1

Two days ago, Sat., Oct.15, we saw a sky full of ballooning spiders. It was the first time I had seen this. People all over town were talking about this event and just amazed at the numbers. What a beautiful event to witness! And how stunning, the numbers were just staggering!

We're in the southwestern corner of the state. Seeing the spiders was amazing! It only lasted one day. It was a clear, warm day with a little breeze. We were wondering what triggers them to all take off on that one day.

The next day as we drove out of town we saw webs caught on wires as far as four miles south and another three miles east of town. I wish I knew how big of an area they covered. I talked to a co-worker who lives about 12 1/2 miles south of town and she said their place was covered with cobwebs that same day. She said it looked like Halloween decorations. Incredible!
