Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/14/2005

Number: 1

A steady stream
of Monarchs has been going through this area. Almost without fail, they
spend the nights in the native Texas Pecan trees by the Nueces River.
The ranchers who have been here for years and years think nothing about
seeing the Monarchs and expect them to be in the Pecan trees. They
think (whether right or wrong) that there is something on the leaves of
those Pecans that feeds the Monarchs. I did see several light on a
large Pecan--not native. They did not stay but moved along to the
Native Pecans.

This migration this year has been a huge one. The only day I have not
seen them was yesterday when we had a tremendous rain storm, and I don't
know what the butterflies did yesterday.

Happy butterfly time.
