Our class planted our 24 Red Emperor Tulips today in our school's butterfly/hummingbird garden that we have been developing over the last two years. We moved our tulip bed to the other side of the garden that receives more morning light. It is hoped that by doing so, we will return to our more usual time of emergence and blooming. Our ground temperature is 58 degrees F.
We are also running an experiment with two of the tulip bulbs. We want to see if the size of the tulip bulb planted predicts the size of the flower that will bloom next spring. We have planted the biggest bulb and our smallest bulb in one area. We will measure the flower in the spring to see which flower was bigger and whose stem was bigger.
We are probably going to fence in our area since there are deer prints around our garden bed. See you in the spring!
