Tulips PLANTED

Date: 10/21/2005

Number: 1

Every student in Sudduth Elementary School (pop 1120) had an opportunity to Plant Red Emperor Tulip Bulb as part of Tulip Day. The k-2 Students prepared for the day by picking an appropriate site on school grounds (often their own class garden plot), picked an activity from the JN website to do, made posters to invite parents and community and wore Red on Tulip Day.
35 Students (grades 5-12) from Quad County Alternative School prepared raised beds and led Sudduth students through the day's activities.
On Tulip Day the students noted the weather, observed and measured their bulb and then planted their bulb. They did a motion activity to demonstrate the tulip deep in the ground during the cold winter and then sprouting and blooming in the spring. TV and newspaper crews came to record the event.
