With the two cold fronts this weekend, we saw large numbers of monarchs migrating from the Point Comfort side of the Lavaca Bay Causeway southwest across the Lavaca Bay towards Port Lavaca. Hundreds would stop on the peninsula at the north end of the causeway where there are blooming wildflowers and False-willow to nector on. On the 25th we counted over 600 monarchs that had stopped to nector. At sundown most of these were still on the peninsula and were in loose clusters for the night. This had been going on since the 21st with the monarchs spending the nights roosting in loose clusters on the False-willow and many clustered on the taller Seaside Goldenrod.
