I have been growing common milkweed along with other native perennials for about a decade on my city lot in a west side neighborhood near Lake Mendota. I raise the monarchs from eggs I collect ever since I noticed alot of eggs were victims of predation. I raise an average of 25 each summer for release. I keep the caterpillars in a small aquarium in our kitchen, feeding them fresh leaves and cleaning their "room" each day; twice a day when they are close to making their chrysalis. My perenial yard is also host to at least one family of hummers and the occaisional visit from an oriole pair earlier in the season.
