Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 02/12/2006

Number: 1

At about noon today I saw a Male Rufous Hummingbird checking out
our Flowering Red Currant bush right outside the dining room window (we do
have a couple of early blooms, most of the plant is still buds). I
immediately put out our feeders but we didn't see him again. He had a
bright red gorget which we saw him flash, but his head and back were quite
green. It is our earliest sighting in our yard. The next earliest was last
year on March 4th.
