I had an adult male Ruby-throat in sparkling plumage at noon in my
backyard. He fed while I fed. I set up a dummy cage and hope to get home
in time to try for a banding. I would call him a migrant. It is rare that
southwestern LA beats southeastern LA with the first R-t.
Also in the yard today were the four regulars: return male Buff-bellied,
return female Rufous, SY male Rufous, and SY female Rufous. All looking
good. The SY male still has his gorget to complete, but his wings are
making a nice whistle.
