First male hummingbird sighted p.m. of March 1 in backyard. I could hear him before I saw him. His Bright red throat very striking when the light hit it at just the right angle. He was rufous all over but rather a subdued or darker rather than "brighter" tone. It was an overcast day. Last year we saw our first on March 11, and the year before on March 17.
