First flock of cranes (assume sandhill) flew overhead late this afternoon. Headed north, I estimated 50 in the flock. They make a distinctive sound (oooooggghhh) as they fly overhead. Its pretty ammazing that they can be heard from the ground so distinctly, but every year I hear them, look up and am struck dumb at the sight.

I assume sandhill cranes not whoopers because I have seen many many flocks in a single day.
