All Other Signs of Spring

I saw my first ever "Pileated Woodpecker" The morning of February 27, 2006.

I turned to mush! I couldn't believe what I was seeing! (he arrived with 2 (two) Common Flickers, following his trail closely). I know they wanted some part of that cavity he was
drilling, but they never got it.

I could hardly hold my camera, in fact I couldn't! I was shaking so much.

It was painful, but finally I set the camera up to view him from my table.

It's amazing how much time I had to do all I did, change film even!

That Woodpecker was in love with that half dead tree right there at my Main Bird Feeding area and pounding his head off. That Woodpecker was an awesome sight to see! He was so large! At that moment I thought the thought and I was sad. I knew anything with that much length and breadth of beauty had to watch his corners and beware. Since I saw how involved he became in that tree, I knew he just might miss his chance.

God, what a moment and I do believe it was God who brought that wonderful
moment to me!
