We have seen two or three monarchs flying through our garden from time to time over the past month. A big flush of caterpillars came during the last week in February. Approximately one out of seven caterpillars were infected with tachanid fly larva. Otherwise all seemd healthy even through our late February freeze which hit when the caterpillars were in second -third instar. Much of our milkweed was hit hard by the late freeze in our area.
