A foot of new snow today-- and while out shoveling there was a loud chirping and trilling in the trees near by. I walked over to get a better view (could it be red-winged blackbirds?) and discovered a boisterous flock of red-winged blackbirds. There must have been 30 birds. I was amazed to see them in a flock and to hear of their arrival so early in the season. They are a full 2 weeks early this spring.
