Walden Pond had a short ice season this winter due to a warmer than average winter. It finally froze over towards the end of January but the ice layer remained very thin eliminating the opportunity for visitors to safely ice skate or ice fish. The ice out date was March 13th, 2006 after an unusually warm weekend with temperatures in the 60's F. Massachusetts had heavy rains last night (March 14th) and so it sure looks like and feels like spring. - Steve - Walden Pond Park Ranger
