We live in Putnam Valley, NY and this past week 6-10 we got our first glimpse of the robins. We put out our bird feeders the 1st week of March for the chickadees. My boys 7 and 10 got interested in birds last fall. The birds already had their favorite feeding locations and so when we put out our feeders only the chickadees and chipmunks came to visit. In March we put out pie plates with seeds for them. The edge on the pie plate gives them a ledge to stand on. So far we have attracted our usual friends the Chickadees, Woodpeckers, Cardinals, House Finches, House Sparrow, and Cowbirds. As a result of all these wonderful birds visiting, the Robins caught on and so we had a quit a bit of them on our front lawn! We started jumping up and down; we knew spring was near. There red breast and awaking song in the morning was refreshing. Though it was a bit cold I opened my windows all the way to hear them. Then I went into my boys room and did the same. I gently woke them up at 6:00.
