My south Austin monarch surveys yesterday afternoon (3/13) confirm what others are observing, that monarchs are on the move across Texas.
At Zilker Botanical Gardens I saw as many as 11 monarchs in an hour walk.
Forewing measurements of those caught:
53 mm, male, worn
Pair in copula:
53 mm, male, worn; 52 mm, female, worn
3 eggs found on four A. curassavica (hybrid?) plants
Barton Springs Nursery
As many as five at one time on a pair of Texas Mountain Laurel Trees:
52 mm, male, worn
56 mm, male., worn
Staff said they have seen monarchs since Saturday (3/11)
