Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 03/16/2006

Number: 1

I finally saw my first Ruby Throat about 5 minutes ago. I was out watering my plants after I had taken down, cleaned, refilled, and hung the feeder when the hummer appeared. Joy! I'm working on a new back yard and the pickings are slim. I have petunias, vinca, verbena, red honeysuckle,Earth Kind Roses, blue agave, and butterfly weed blooming in small quantities. A Monarch was laying eggs also. Maybe this is one of the birds from last fall that is visiting as it passes through. The temp. is 84 and the wind is out of the south at 12 mph.
