The last week on December 2005, I had about 20 Monarch caterpillars on my 3 milkweed plants. The weather was going to get in the low 30s, so I brought 18 inside. In January 2006 16 Monarch butterflies were released from my home in Orlando, FL. They did eat most of my milkwweed leaves, but the leaves came back. I never had a freeze that damaged the plants. The plants are full of leaves and in full bloom at this time. I have not sighted any adults or eggs.
I also have milkweed plants in DeLand, FL that have all of their leaves now, but no sighting of Monarchs or eggs.
I hope this is helpful.
