Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/14/2006

Number: 1

Due to our warm weather here in Jacksonville, Florida, we've seen adult monarchs all year. Our milkweeds also have never lost all their leaves. One plant is already blooming, others are close. Our first batch of caterpillars hatched last week (3/14), and now another batch has hatched. If anyone nearby wants to "adopt" some, ours will eventually overeat the plants we have (normally we take some to a neighbor on the river who has plants but no insects.)

Spring is here! (Time to plant the parsley for the black swallowtails!)
