Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/20/2006

Number: 1

We are in Houston, TX and currently have 64 monarch caterpillars that are devouring the plants I have. The count is rising each day. About 1/2 of the caterpillars are full size. We will go get more plants if I can still find them. I pulled some 1" starter milkweed inside to let them safely grow. About a week later, I noticed that several of the tops were gone from the plants. Sure enough, there was a 1/2" caterpillar chowing away on what I thought I had protected! The kids thought it was hysterical. We moved him outside with the others.
